DIRECT AND INDIRECT SPEECH.

  • 9 Steps

About

Indirect speech reports the words of the speaker in a different way than the actual words said. The structure of the reported clause depends on whether the speaker is reporting a statement, a question or a command. Direct speech is reporting a spoken text that quotes the exact words of the speaker, sometimes called quoted speech as it contains quotation marks. It is followed by a reporting clause or signal phrase.
